Meinl 22" Byzance Jazz China Cymbal Ride Cymbal With Sizzles

Explore Expressive Texture with the Meinl 22-Inch Byzance Jazz China-Ride Cymbal

This is the 22-inch China-Ride from Meinl’s Byzance Jazz line, model “B22JCHR.” It’s a thin, hand-hammered cymbal made from B20 bronze alloy, designed to produce an exotic, trashy sound with a soft, warm feel. It’s voiced for low pitch and dark timbre, with a complex, musical character suited for jazz, funk, reggae, world, studio, and more.

• Material: B20 bronze alloy
• Hand-hammered for a unique, complex sound
• Size: 22-inch diameter
• Weight / Profile: Thin (delicate/light), which contributes to its responsiveness and softer, lower-volume character
• Cymbal type: China-Ride (blurs traditional China and ride roles) — useable as a ride cymbal or as a trashy-effect China
• Sound character: Low in pitch, dark timbre, complex and musical blend of tones; “trashy” but controllable, with medium sustain and good dynamic responsiveness
• Best suited for music styles: Jazz, funk, reggae, world, studio work, and other genres favoring darker, more nuanced cymbal voices rather than bright, cutting crash-rides

Sound and Use

The B22JCHR delivers an “exotic, trashy sound with a soft feeling.” It responds well across a wide dynamic range — from subtle swells to more aggressive strikes — making it versatile as a smooth, sizzling ride or as a slow-swelling crash or effect cymbal. Its dark, musical tone and lower volume make it especially well-suited for jazz, funk, world music, studio settings, or live performances where a more nuanced cymbal voice is desired rather than a bright, cutting crash.
